I call it a lesson learned..

Hey world!

Hope all is well..everything is great on my end.  Soooo I have some news about my hair:  I no longer have my locs.  I realize how much upkeep it takes and also how much I love to do different styles to my hair that I went ahead and combed out my starter locs.  I’m actually proud of myself: I kept them for a MONTH! What I will say what I love most about being Natural is the versatility of it: straighten, twist, braid, fro, curls..whatever you want and thats what I love most about my hair :) I go to the salon on Saturday morning. I’m debating if I want to get color or not..but I’m excited about it getting flat ironed and curled, I haven’t stepped foot in a salon since last November, crazy right?

When its all said and done, I know that I am NOT my hair.  I don’t let it define who I am.  People say that “works for you” or assume you’re a certain “kind” of way because of your crown and glory.  SMH.  You are who you are.  At the end of the day, you are still beautiful.

“One thing ‘bout music, when it hits you, you feel no pain”…

Good morning world! So I was looking through my iPod and I figured I could share with ya’ll my favorite 10 music artists I can listen to 24-7-365. As much as I would like to rank them, I feel I cannot because I like them all for very different reasons, therefore, no scale shall be placed on them. Personally, I am against video/song countdowns of those sort due to the fact it is solely based on “popularity” and not “originality”..So here it goes my favorite music artists..Enjoy

Michael Jackson
-enough said. This man took entertainment to a whole nutha level. I fell in love with him when I first saw the “Rock with You” video. Alot of today’s current male R&B artist have him as their influence. Plus, what other artist do you know that STILL has the BEST SELLING ALBUM OF ALL TIME?! No one else like you..your music lives on forever.

Jay-Z
Best rapper alive. His lyrics are sooo nice (especially for someone who can just walk into a recording studio and just start freestyling) words cannot explain. There is not one album, I have yet to dislike. “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business… man.” From the “Late Registration” album. Of the best Jay Z quotes, this one tells us just what makes Jay Z himself: he’s a business. Just by being who he is, Jay Z rakes in millions, just like a business, man.

Lauryn Hill
My all time favorite female r&b singer/rapper. She is the epitome of beauty and originality. ALL of my friends know how big of a fan I am. I would love to see her perform someday one day.

Erykah Badu
Very eccentric, raw, and real. I started listening to her music back elementary school and have been hooked since. I even got the opportunity to see her perform last year. She puts on an amazing show. I also love her style.

Kanye West
Even though he receives more recognition as a producer, since Kanye hit the scene as a rapper, he changed the game. From his first solo debut “College Dropout” to the sadness/rawness “808s & Heartbreaks”. It shows the guy is hella diverse. “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” album is STILL playing in my car. :-)

R. Kelly
Say what you want about this man, but he can SANG! His voice is amazing.

Ne-Yo
I ADORE him! From his style (the guy can rock a fedora) to his original R&B music, Ne-Yo has that mixture of MJ and R. Kelly. I love ALL his songs.

Whitney Houston
I was raised off her music. The most beautiful voice ever.

Maroon 5
Expected much? I love this group! I can listen to the “Songs About Jane” album allll day. Adam Levine..nuff said.

N.E.R.D.
Its amazing how a group of friends can come together with some of the best eclectic, crazy beats and sounds with interesting lyrics. Pharrell Williams..call me!

There’s no such thing as “GOOD” hair..

Hola!

So I just got done washing my hair and this topic came to mind…

For those who do not know, I am Natural—meaning, no chemical/perm is in my hair, with the exception of the color I once had in my hair but it is growing out quickly..anyways back to the subject at hand:

I just want to say to my ladies, fellas as well..there is no such thing as “GOOD” hair.  You can be mixed with 5 different ethnicities, have LONG silky hair, or have never had a PERM in your lifetime..no matter the situation, this does NOT make you different from the rest of today’s woman.

I can however tell you there is such thing as having bad hair:

  • damaged ends/edges
  • untrimmed ends
  • not moisturizing your hair
  • overshampooing your hair causing dry hair
  • dry itchy scalp
  • keeping extensions/weaves in for a long period of time without treatment

…So to all my Natural sistahs out there no need to convince women to go “Natural”…to my sister friends who have relaxed hair:  no need to bash Natural hair women for the choice they made with THEIR hair. Its a DECISION we make about OURSELVES, regardless of what SOCIETY says. At the end of the day, the common goal is to have HEALTHY hair. Ladies, we should take care of our hair the same way we do our bodies: as TEMPLES.

Peace & Love.

…been gone for a minute, now I’m back at it!

Heeeeey ya’ll!!!

I know, I know..I disappeared. Went ghost. Vanished.  But it was for good reasons..let me update ya’ll on what’s been going on with me.

Let’s see where to begin..I can start with the most recent and move my way down lol (I’m a lefty, difficult like that)..

  • went to OMG concert w/ my cuzzo & friend..soo much fun, STILL hoarse from the show!
  • got a little promotion with my job (more hours, more $$$)
  • graduated Dec. 18, 2010 w/ honors (Cum Laude)
  • I have a new boo & I’ve never been happier :-)

So I think that’s pretty much it.  Life takes over.  I’m happy.  Very content.  Striving to do better always.

Now that I’m done with school (for now..), I will try to do more blogging..can’t promise ya’ll but I will say this …I’m back!

I wish everyone a prosperous Happy New Year!
